The Telecom Landscape is changing globally. It was also evident in the recent exhibition held under the aegis of India Mobile Congress 2017 (IMC 2017) at New Delhi.
The traditional landscape used to comprise of mainly the telecom operators & the telecom vendors.
In this exhibition IMC 2017, besides the telecom operators namely Airtel, Vodafone & Reliance Jio and the global telecom vendors namely Ericsson, Nokia Networks (post merger with Alcatel Lucent), Huawei & ZTE ; now Google & Facebook also had dominant presence. Undoubtedly the telecom landscape is changing significantly. As is evident, this now has OTT (On The Top) players occupying significant share of the overall landscape. Hence, now we can say that the telecom landscape comprises of telecom operators, telecom vendors and OTT players.
From the technology perspective the focus was mainly on 5G & IOT (Internet of Things). Although the 5G specifications are still under finalisation by 3GPP, needless to mention that the data driven applications are going to drive the telecom services in India as well in the next couple of years. This is the new emerging telecom era of the next decade and would help in realising the dream of Digital India.
